Jiuquan Iron & Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter as JISCO) is a large-scale enterprise group. Its operation mainly focuses on steel industry, while being engaged in some other businesses of various ownership at different areas as well, including power generation, mechanical manufacture, electrical manufacture/ repair, refractory and chemistry, cement and construction materials, steel structure, welding material, industrial and civil architecture, metallurgical engineering, vehicle transportation, logistics, real estate, industry automation, environment protection, high-tech farming, medical service, higher vocational education, catering and industry tourism. The total assets of JISCO is RMB 30 billion and total quantity of employee is 39 thousand (there into, 27 thousand on post). JISCO consists of about 50 companies among which there are 22 subsidiary companies or branch companies. The sales offices are located at Jiayuguan, Lanzhou, Xi’an, Yinchuan, Urumchi, Taiyuan, Chendu, Shanghai etc. In order to take advantage of overseas resource, daughter companies have been established in South Africa and Mongolia.
JISCO listed 172nd among the 2008 top 500 Chinese enterprises with 30,101,500,000 Yuan business revenue.
JISCO pays a lot of attention to construction of enterprise culture. JISCO’s unique geography and humanity environment as well as the devious development course congeals the “Iron mine spirit”, the core of which is “hard pioneering, gritty persistence, fearless dedication, striding onward”. “Iron mine spirit” is one of six enterprise spirits which were ever introduced as the model examples to the whole national metallurgy industry.
The main technology and equipments of JISCO are comparatively state-of-art among that of counterpart during “the 10th- 5 year plan” period, and the main metallurgical products are as follow:
1.High speed wire & rod: ∮5.5～25mm plain carbon steel series, ∮5.5～8.0mm welding rod series, ∮5.5～6.5mm welding wire steel and cotton steel series, ∮5.5～14.0mm high carbon steel and cold frusta steel series, ∮5.5～10mm cotton strapping ribbon series. Total production capacity is 1.5 million tons/year.
2.Bar: ∮10～25mm round rebar series, ∮12～40mm ribbed rebar series. Total production capacity is 700,000 tons/year.
3.Medium thickness and heavy plate: plain carbon steel, middle carbon steel, vessel steel, low alloy steel, bridge steel, pipeline steel with width varied between 1500-2700mm, length between 2000-12000mm and thickness between 6-40mm, the ship plate of 6-30mm thickness, the auto crossbeam steel of 6-12mm thickness. The total production capacity is 1 million tons/year.
4.Hot rolled coil: plain carbon steel, high quality carbon structure steel and low alloy steel with width varied between 900-1500mm and thickness between 2-12.7mm, the pipeline steel of 4-12.7mm thickness, the stainless steel of 2.4-10mm thickness. The total production capacity is 900,000 tons/year.
5.CSP coil: carbon steel, high quality carbon steel, low alloy high strength structure steel, auto structure steel and pipeline steel with width varied between 850-1600mm, thickness 0.8-12.7mm. The total production capacity is 2 million tons/year.
Above-mentioned products have passed the third-party attestation for ISO9001:2000 quality management system, and the metallurgical production process has been assured with ISO 14000-environment system.
Plan for “the 11th-Five-Year”
During the 11th-Five-Year period, JISCO will continuously put into effect the “scientific development idea”，i.e., human-based, technology-oriented, concept-related and route-linked, and embark on the harmonic and sustainable road by means of “loftily leaping, excellent product, superior quality, high benefit”, in order to lay a foundation for the target of JISCO “one-hundred-year lifetime”. Making full use of the opportunity of the provincial “strengthen the industry” strategy and national “west exploitation” strategy, JISCO will further deepen the enterprise reform, keep the technology upgraded, adjust the industry structure, flourish the non-steel industry, optimize the product mix, absorb the strategic investor, emphasis on the value-added project, improve the property right structure, innovate the administration and management, and enhance the enterprise competitiveness. By the end of the 11th-Five- year period, iron, steel and steel product will respectively reach 7.8 million tons, 8.8 million tons (including 900,000 ton stainless steel) and 8.2 million tons; Sales income will be RMB 40 billion Yuan, then JISCO will rank into China’s top 100 industrial enterprises and become the area’s most competitive Iron & steel group.
